At dawn on a glorious March morning in Sydney, nearly 150 friends, clients and industry colleagues of Emjay Insurance Brokers took part in our annual Charity Golf Day at St Michael’s Golf Club overlooking the Tasman Sea.
We stage this event each year to raise money for the Communities Assist charity (formerly Committee Assist), which helps to improve the welfare and economic outlook of AIDS-devastated communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. There’s a particular focus on improving the lives of the estimated 13 million children in the region who have tragically been orphaned
by AIDS.
We’ve staged this event every year since 2010 and it continues to grow. With 34 teams participating this year, not only does the event help bring the insurance community together, it helps raise significant funds for Communities Assist.
We’re delighted to report that more than $30,000 was raised on the day. This will literally change lives in the African communities it will go to. We are extremely grateful to all our event sponsors and participants – not to mention the individual donations – that helped us set this record figure.
The insurance industry is often vilified in the press and misunderstood by the public – usually due to mainstream media coverage of a tiny percentage of claims that are not paid. But the reality is that the industry is full of kind and generous individuals, with companies of all sizes giving a lot back to those less fortunate than ourselves – both at home and abroad.
Charitable events like ours are taking place across Australia every week, with the insurance community helping to raise tens of millions of dollars for good causes every year. It’s a side of the industry the general public is often less aware of, and that’s a real shame.
Our sincere thanks go to everyone who supported this year’s event, and who donated their time and money to this very good cause. It was a great day, and lots of fun.
